Keep reading to find out what happened to the Lea and Perrins infamous white wine sauce!

Is There Such A Thing As White Worcestershire Sauce?

Yes, White Wine Worcestershire sauce is indeed a real condiment, but a lesser-known cousin of the traditional dark Worcestershire sauce.

It combines the classic flavors of Worcester sauce (the regular white vinegar; for US audiences, Anchovies, seasonings etc.) with the delicate notes of Sauterne wine and an aromatic blend of herbs.

The result of this combination is a sauce that offers a lighter, more subtle and even sweeter taste compared to its darker counterpart, making it an ideal choice for adding to sauces or use as a basting liquid.

Whatever Happened to Lea & Perrins White Wine Worcestershire Sauce?

To be very honest, – a majority of us don’t even know something like the Lea and Perrins White Wine Worcestershire Sauce ever existed, and for those that are familiar with it, you’ll testify that it has become very scarce to find these days, even at popular online retail stores like Walmart and Amazon.

But what could be the reason for the disappearance?

We decided to dig a little deeper and we discovered something not so pleasing to hear!

As it turns out, Lea and Perrins white wine Worcestershire sauce was discontinued in 2020, and the reason for the unfortunate demise, according to the company, can be traced back to a lack of popularity among consumers.

Despite the company’s best marketing efforts, the product simply didn’t resonate with customers as much as its classic counterpart.

This led to dwindling sales figures and a steady drop in demand for the niche product. Faced with this harsh reality, the decision was made by Lea and Perrins to discontinue production of white wine Worcestershire sauce altogether.

The remaining stock was subsequently shipped from warehouses and distributed among grocery stores nationwide.

So what’s left of the sauce is a few bottles on very few shelves across the states, if any.

If you plan on landing a bottle in your pantry anytime soon, know that it’s a serious hunting job you’ll have to get into!

At the moment, it seems that Lea & Perrins have no plans whatsoever to bring back their discontinued White Wine Worcestershire Sauce, and we learnt this after communicating to their customer service representatives.

But they’ve done something quite encouraging, which is to introduce a very similar alternative that attempts to fill up the void, even though finding this alternative can be notoriously difficult too!

  1. Please bring the White Wine Worcestershire for chicken back. I watch quite a few chef’s on Utube and Chef Jean Pierre used it last week, in one of his “recent” videos. I used to be able to get it when I lived in NY on Long Island. It was excellent with fish as well. Since I moved to Florida, I have not found it. Amazon still has it listed but they sent me the wrong one, they sent me the Low Sodium for beef, I have plenty of that. Amazon should remove it from there list, as this item is UN-returnable.
